Instead of limiting colour fans to just one tone, this year Pantone is highlighting the blend of Rose Quartz and Serenity blue as their official colour of 2016.
The two colours were chosen to reflect balance; the warmth of sugary rose and the coolness of sky blue together create a tranquil aesthetic that symbolizes connection and wellness. This Zen approach resonates with many of us who seek order in our lives.
In both fashion and interior design, pink and blue have been a popular colour combination for years now. Ever perceptible of consumer colour choices, Pantone sees the combo as a challenge to traditional colour associations that assigned pink to women and blue to men, effectively marrying the traditional feminine with the traditional masculine to create a modern unified colour identity.
Considering how beautifully they work together, you can expect to see Rose Quartz and Serenity featured heavily in wedding decor this year.
Did you attend Incentiveworks last week? The FOS team was there in full force! Not only did we have one of the largest and most spectacular booths at the show, but we also sponsored the show’s decor and furniture.
If you’re unfamiliar with Canada’s largest and longest-running trade show for the meetings/incentive travel/special events industry, Incentiveworks is an incredible 2-day event where industry professionals can network and attend educational seminars that aim to enhance their business events. Over 700 companies attend the show annually to showcase their products and services for corporate meetings, special events and incentive travel planning needs.
Attendees were drawn to FOS’ elegant and intimate black, white and gold nook, which was a giant 20′ x 20′ booth behind the Discovery District. Our entire design team was in attendance to show off the FOS style and invite people to enter our draw for a $500 decor gift certificate.
In addition to manning our own spectacular booth for the event, FOS also sponsored the show with decor for the Connection Lounge – a massive communal space where industry professionals could unwind or meet new people in a relaxed environment. We also provided seating, tables and decor for 3 session rooms, where educational seminars were held in the mornings of the event days.
As usual Incentiveworks was an incredible experience for FOS, and we were thrilled to sponsor the show with our design and decor services! We hope to see you there next year!
As the wedding season reaches its peak, the talented FOS team has found itself championing a stunning decor trend inspired by the colour-blending technique that’s killing it in the fashion scene: ombre
A few years ago the ombre trend started brightening up hairstyles across the world. From there, the shading spread to clothing, nails, and even interior decor. We’re now bringing ombre to event designs, with a particular focus on blush coloured florals and lighting.
Over the past few weeks our floral and design teams have been busy creating challenging gradient masterpieces to wow our clients and their guests. The dark-to-light look lends itself perfectly to a soft, romantic atmosphere, and creates a complex aesthetic that brides love.
The perfect event relies on various decor elements working together to create a powerful aesthetic that immerses guests in the night’s purpose. Without proper lighting, an event design risks losing that “wow” factor that’s so important to every client, and every Event Designer. FOS has been expertly lighting up events for close to 20 years now – we even won Best Use of Lighting at the 13th annual Canadian Star Awards – and our team has a deep understanding and appreciation of lighting’s power to transform an event space.
To achieve the perfect ambience for an event, FOS uses powerful, intelligent lighting technology. Our skilled lighting technicians can seamlessly coat any room in colour, or a rotation of colours, using wash lighting to create a base. Building on that base, appropriate table lights – such as up-lit tables, pinspots, or candles/fuel cells – are often a subtle but powerful way to orchestrate the look and feel of an event, including the energy level of the guests.
Our team uses custom lighting colours and combinations to enhance the spirit of the event, and transform the space into another world. By focusing specific colours on different aspects of an event with uplights, spot lights, or other effects, designers can highlight targeted elements in different ways, while still bringing them together to create one cohesive design.
Gobo lights are an effective, modern way of creating light-based images that enhance the theme or focus of an event in a beautiful, relevant way. Examples include the carousel horses in our award-winning “Reach for the Brass Ring” event, and romantic monogram projections on soft curtain backdrops.
A well-lit event – any event, whether a wedding, product launch, or celebration – is infused with complexity, and can be a mind-blowing experience for the guests. Lighting can push a design beyond expectations, and set the stage for an evening that no one will soon forget.
