Event Trends Summer 2017: Garden Chic Weddings

This season, brides are turning away from elegant perfectionism, and instead opting for a more organic aesthetic for their wedding decor. Specifically, they’re asking for a ‘Garden Chic’ theme that seems to be heavily influenced by Pantone’s colour of the year: Greenery [read more about this here].

The idea for this trend is to deconstruct the florals; to make it look like you just walked through an overgrown garden and hand-picked your fill. This means naked-stem bouquets and loose table arrangements bursting with greenery. For colour, rich floral accents such as merlot, red and fuchsia flowers are helping to enhance this Garden Chic theme.

Against all this green, brides are choosing muted linen tones to create a light base for the greenery to pop, such as blush, candlelight glow, and ivory satins. Our designers are then bringing in earthy silver, gold and rose gold accents to tie it all together with a touch of elegance.

It’s a little bit country, a little bit cottage, and a little bit glam!

Winter decor is Coming

Brace yourselves: Snowflakes and hot chocolate are here!

Canada doesn’t stop having fun just because it’s a little icy outside. Events still go strong right through winter. In fact, the spirit of the season is celebrated and embraced by planners, decorators and clients alike. Think Santa Claus parade, Cavalcade of Lights, the Royal Winter Fair, the Toronto Christmas Market, Ice Fest, etc. Magical events that make us smile even in the coldest of blizzards.

Weddings and corporate events at this time of the year embrace a good Canadian Winter. For an incredible winter event, our designers concentrate on one of two main directions you can go:

1) Cool and Sleek

Sleek furniture like our Manhattan collection is perfect for a minimalist winter aesthetic. Whether accented with chrome or gold frames (we carry both), the furniture creates a clean white base on which we can build the layers of winter decor.

To this base you can add floating candles in glass vases, white or gold sequin linens and decor accents like birch branches, glass charger plates, Manzanita trees with hanging crystals or simple tea lights. Keeping it simple is key.

You can build further on this by adding pops of colour, and incorporating different textural elements to create intrigue, such as hanging crystals that look like ice, or white flowers with metallic accents.

2) Warm and Cozy

In contrast to the crisp, white-based approach, a rustic look is just as stunning, and reminds people of being home for the holidays. We like to use our Distillery Collection furniture paired with dark contrasting colours to make the space vibrant.

To add warmth and charm, clever accents like bold charger plates, textured linens and epic centerpieces help bring the space to life. You can also incorporate choice props to define a scene or add a great photo opportunity to a design.

For true warmth, the perfect lighting is key to creating the cozy winter aesthetic. Depending on your design, sophisticated lighting treatments or good old-fashioned candles will help set the mood, and tie everything together.

FOS has lots going on during the winter months – from corporate holiday parties to deep winter weddings to high-end trade shows. The designs may look different, but the motive is the same: to bring people together in celebration.

We hope that these thoughts and ideas have inspired you to embrace the magic of the season. As always if you have any questions or would like to discuss a possible event, drop us a line at info@fosdecor.com

Warm and Cozy Festivity

Using warm fall colours, wood grain “Distillery” furniture, and creative lighting techniques, our team decorated the ultimate mountaintop retreat for a very special corporate client at the stunning Blue Mountain Resort. We fully embraced the spirit of the season for this event, incorporating subtle hints of fall in the decor to create an intimate and inviting space for over 300 guests.

Here’s a look at what we did:

After taking a scenic drive up the mountain and walking past an enchanted lawn of glowing LED lights, guests entered the massive tent where their evening would take place.

Our team treated the tent out from top to bottom, building on a rich base layer of sophisticated lighting executed by our expert technicians, which included crystal chandeliers, wash lighting and accent uplights.

To make the space warm and inviting, we alternated the use of round tables with forest green sequined linens and gold ghost chairs with distillery communal tables and stools.

The fresh multi-tone centerpieces incorporated orange, red, and purple, and were accented with gold pumpkins and dancing green tea lights in mirror votives. Outside we also set up oak wine barrels spilling over with even more rustic, vibrant florals to carry the theme throughout the space.

FOS recently introduced the new custom-created Distillery furniture line that made this event so unique and exceptional. They pair beautifully with any florals, and in the right designer’s hands are flexible enough to capture the essence of any season.

If you would like to see more images from this event we encourage you to check out our online gallery of images. We’ve also got pictures of our full Distillery collection as well as lots of new decor rentals in our collection pages.

Make your indoor wedding summery!

A warm, summery outdoor wedding is a dream come true, assuming all goes according to plan. However because plans often go awry when you’re counting on Mother Nature, most couples choose the security of an indoor wedding.

But just because you’re inside doesn’t mean you can’t have summer in your wedding. Here are some suggestions to incorporate summer into your indoor wedding without spending a fortune.

1) Pick a summery theme and embrace it!

Whatever your summer thing is, you can use it as a fantastic base for a wedding!

Cottage goers? Think marshmallow roasting station and wood grain furniture.
Fan of music fests? Use lots of bold colours and wispy fabrics in your décor, and put bubble pots on each table.
Beach babe? Incorporate sand and shells into your centerpieces and use customized beach towels as your favours – they’re affordable and fun!

2) Choose bright colours against a white base.

Bright colours like yellow, green and orange are automatically associated with summer. The warmth carries over even more if you pair it with fresh greens that remind guests of being outdoors in nice weather. You don’t have to limit your colours to florals either – think about using bright, bold tumblers, table runners or candles!

Use a white base so the colours have ‘space’ to pop, and keep the rest of your decor minimal to maximize your budget while creating a truly summery aesthetic.

3) Incorporate an outdoor lounge

By setting up a lounge space outside, you allow guests to enjoy the summer air without risking the entire wedding. All you need is a covered space and some sleek white furniture where guests can retreat to. You can also put one of your bars out there to serve cool summer refreshments, like signature frozen mixed drinks or fresh mojitos to enhance your theme.

4) Achieve that garden look with clever florals

Instead of perfect, manicured floral balls, go for something more rustic with greens to make the arrangements look like they were fresh picked from a local garden (or like they’re still in that garden). You can also incorporate fresh citrus fruits or butterfly decorations as a trendy, inexpensive and powerful way to freshen up your decor and enhance the summer theme!

5) Opt for a tent.

If your budget allows, a fully covered tent will let you to roll up the windows and enjoy the summer breeze, or shut out the rain and mosquitoes as you see fit. Keep in mind there will be added costs to energizing a tent, but you can save in other ways, like having both your ceremony and reception in the same space and keeping your florals to a minimum.

If you’re a true summer spirit, we highly recommend you discuss these options with your Event Planner and Event Designer. They can help you come up with even more ideas that fit your style and your budget.
